Virtual-Machining

The RG “Virtual Machining“ focuses on modeling, simulation, and optimization of real manufacturing processes. The research work is characterized by interdisciplinary cooperation between computer scientists and mechanical engineers. The design of geometric and physically-based models for simulating machining processes, the analysis of sensor data, and the development of methods for an online adaptation of machining processes directly at the machine tool are main topics of this RG. Generating a digital twin of the machining process, a simulation-based analysis and an optimization of the processes will be possible prior to the real manufacturing operation. In addition, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiederkehr heads the research group "Simulation and Process Design" at the Institute of Machining Technology, with which there is close cooperation and projects are partly worked on together.
